In this video, Patrick Mattingley from AllAboutDriveways.com, discusses the importance of installing the driveway right the first time.
Proper asphalt driveway paving makes the difference between a driveway that can last for only a few months and one that will last for twenty years.
The first thing to do is prepare the sub-grade properly. Drainage plans are crucial. It is essential to grade the soil in order to allow proper drainage. To prevent flooding, water has to drain off the building. Also, the water should drain from the asphalt. The gravel and rocks must be removed prior to asphalt driveway paving. It is vital to take out topsoil, clay and sand as they are weak and fragile. The soil should be replaced with stronger material.
Long driveways need to be leveled and flat, with some slight slope on each of the sides, so that water is able to flow through the pavement. There’s no benefit to the driveway having a crown in it. In order to prevent the growth of plants through the asphalt, it is important to apply herbicide before installing. To install the asphalt the asphalt, an asphalt paver is required.
